06.30 pm: So here is a quick preview of the quarterfinal matchups. Join us for the blog tomorrow.

Srikanth vs Li Shi Feng: The former champion at the Indonesia Open takes on the reigning All England champion. Srikanth has won their only past meeting, in the round of 32 on his way to silver at the 2021 World Championships. Li will perhaps start the favourite here.

HS Prannoy vs Kodai Naraoka: One of the tougher nuts to crack in world badminton at the moment, Naraoka will come into this match with a 4-0 H2H against Prannoy. They had met in the first round last week in Singapore and it was a hard-fought contest for 56 minutes even though Naraoka won in straight games.

Satwik-Chirag vs Alfian-Ardianto: Perhaps the match of the day in men’s doubles. The top seeds from Indonesia who will have the entire Istora behind them vs one of the hottest pairs in world at the moment in SatChi. The H2H is 2-1 in favour of Indonesians, but they haven’t met since Thailand Open in 2019 and since then a lot has changed for both pairs.

India’s matches in the round of 16:

Srikanth Kidambi 21-17 22-20 Lakshya Sen (Srikanth will face Li Shi Feng next)

PV Sindhu 18-21 16-21 Tai Tzu Ying  (Court 1)

HS Prannoy 21-18, 21-16 Ng Ka Long Angus (Prannoy faces Naraoka next)

Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 15-21 Anthony Ginting

Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 21-15 He-Zhou (Chirag-Satwik to face top seeds Alfian/Ardianto next)

Reaction from Priyanshu Rajawat after the defeat against Anthony Ginting:

“It’s a great experience for me. It was overwhelming, because after winning the first game I felt I had a chance, but I made too many mistakes under pressure. I’ll take a lot of confidence from this match, I hope I can maintain this level.”

Reaction from Ginting:

“It was a tough match, maybe because it’s our first meeting. I only saw him play on YouTube.

“I had a lead in the first game, but he changed the way he played, and I don’t know what happened. I tried to get back by changing my tactics, tried to push him by playing aggressively, but not to rush. He’s got a good defence as well, it’s not easy to get a point from him, so I had to play patiently.

“He could be a player to watch. Actually, he’s already there.”

Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 15-21 Anthony Ginting: Well, that was a thrill and a half. There is something about a young talent finding his place at the big stage. The win wasn’t to be for Priyanshu (and mind you, he had his chances) but a reiteration of why he is so highly rated.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 15-21 Anthony Ginting: Ginting wins! Nails a down-the-line smash. A solid outing for Priyanshu! Embrace at the net said it all. Anthony Ginting knew he got a mighty test from this 21-year-old. “We are going to see a lot more of him I’m sure,” ends Gill Clark. Indeed so.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 15-20 Anthony Ginting: One more return error from Priyanshu. These are the ones that hurt. Now match points.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 15-18 Anthony Ginting: Oh Priyanshu can’t get his lift right and Ginting puts it away at the net. That was another good rally though.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 15-17 Anthony Ginting: Another mini recovery by Priyanshu and once again Ginting trying to get loose. A crosscourt winner and it is 2-point game!

“Very excited by the potential of this young man, Rajawat”: Clark

“Yep I agree”: Steen

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 11-17 Anthony Ginting: Not to be, it would seem. Priyanshu again having problems with his lengths. Ginting will be mighty relieved.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 11-14 Anthony Ginting: Ginting definitely has dropped his level a bit here. The shot quality has gone down. Another forehand gone wide. Can Priyanshu capitalise?

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 9-13 Anthony Ginting: Ginting trying to get loose here... and plays a superb tight net shot. Then a return error by Priyanshu. Then a serve error by Ginting. Nerves both sides.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 8-11 Anthony Ginting: Not impossible to come back from here but Priyanshu plays from the far end where he didn’t have too much control. A good point from the break, he has the serve back for starters. Make it 2 good points. Positive play.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 6-11 Anthony Ginting: Now a review by Priyanshu and he is just wrong. Ginting catches the line by a small maring. Ginting has obviously upped his game big time in games 2 and 3 but Priyanshu will look back at some of the errors he made with regret. He had this, he could think. Change of ends.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 6-10 Anthony Ginting: Decent little run of points for Priyanshu.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 2-8 Anthony Ginting: That is the point of the match potentially, if you ask me. Really well done by Priyanshu to stay in the rally and even engage with Ginting at the net and play a crosscourt winner. The game state though doesn’t help the Indian much.

Chirag-Satwik to face top seeds Alfian/Ardianto next:

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 1-7 Anthony Ginting:
That is a wild serve by Priyanshu. And Ginting then nails a crosscourt again.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 0-4 Anthony Ginting: The shoulders just starting to droop for Priyanshu and Ginting is nailing his crosscourts.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21, 0-2 Anthony Ginting: If Priyanshu can keep the errors out, this still feels like a close game

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-21 Anthony Ginting: The crowd erupts as Ginting takes the second game with, you guessed it, another winner at the net. He has taken full control of the front-court.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-20 Anthony Ginting: Nice rally again, but once more Ginting shows how good he is at the net. Soon enough, Ginting goes to game points.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 15-17 Anthony Ginting: Nice inside-out crosscourt smash winner by Priyanshu. Still staying in touch despite all the errors.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 13-16 Anthony Ginting: And now, a superb crosscourt net by Priyanshu.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 12-16 Anthony Ginting: A superb crosscourt net shot by Ginting. Followed by another Priyanshu error.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 12-14 Anthony Ginting: Another simpe error there by Priyanshu. Gets the serve back after a good net shot.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 11-13 Anthony Ginting: Ginting is trying to force the pace and it is not quite helping.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 11-10 Anthony Ginting: There’s a Ginting error and Priyanshu has a small lead into the interval.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 10-10 Anthony Ginting: There are now signs that Ginting is resorting to a more rallying style and looking to force the mistake from Priyanshu. Patient rally and Priyanshu with a forehand error. Repeats again soon.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 8-8 Anthony Ginting: Three big errors from Rajawat in the last few rallies. But responds with a lovely down the line winner. Staying in touch.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 6-7 Anthony Ginting: And that is just nerves. Ginting with stunning defence to keep the shuttle in play and then Priyanshu misses at the net. Next point, another superb defensive effort by Priyanshu to stay in the rally but misses a simple-ish shot. Suddenly Ginting in the lead.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 6-2 Anthony Ginting: And another handy lead here for Priyanshu but early days in game 2. That crosscourt winner at 3-2 was delightful.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20, 2-2 Anthony Ginting: Early signs that Priyanshu is going a bit too hard here.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 22-20 Anthony Ginting: WOW. Game 1, Rajawat! Well, well. What a turnround! Trailed 5-12 and then faced 2 game points. But takes it 22-20! That is the most involved Gopichand has been this week so far as far as I have seen.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 21-20 Anthony Ginting: An epic crosscourt winner by Priyanshu followed by another nice rally that results in an error by Ginting... and we are level again. Ginting then rushes with a return. Game point for Priyanshu!

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 18-20 Anthony Ginting: Oh costly error there by Priyanshu. Had Ginting deceived but the backhand net shot doesn’t make it to the other side. Ginting follows that up with a couple of big points and game point for Ginting. That’s the difference.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 18-17 Anthony Ginting: What a point. Priyanshu had to stay in the point somehow early on but recovers superbly to lengthen a rally and force the error. “There is no doubt that this Indian is hugely talented,” says Clark.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 17-17 Anthony Ginting: Ginting’s turn to challenge this time. And this time, Priyanshu has caught the line flush. We are back level.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 15-17 Anthony Ginting: Ginting steadying himself here after that run of points. Priyanshu uses up both his challenges.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 15-14 Anthony Ginting: There is a lead for Priyanshu. Quite a turnaround.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 13-14 Anthony Ginting: There are already signs of how good attacking wise Priyanshu is. He’s getting a handle of the conditions. And showing his range, a delightful crosscourt smash there.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 9-13 Anthony Ginting: Terrific backhand winner down the line by Priyanshu.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 8-12 Anthony Ginting: Coach Siyadath is with Gopichand for this one. Quick chat in the interval, and the Indian has started well post the break.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 5-11 Anthony Ginting: And the big difference so far, understandably, is how well Ginting has used the drift to his advantage while Priyanshu is still figuring it out.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 5-9 Anthony Ginting: As the commentators discuss how they haven’t seen enough too much of Priyanshu, a quick primer here...

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat 2-5 Anthony Ginting: The reception Ginting got was something else. If Priyanshu can ignore the atmosphere, that will be half a win.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat vs Anthony Sinisuka Ginting: First of all, Gemke’s injury promoted him to the main draw. Then, Vitidsarn withdrew. And so Priyanshu gets this chance to play Ginting in front of this crazy crowd. First meeting between the two obviously.

MS round of 16, Priyanshu Rajawat vs Anthony Sinisuka Ginting: Time for the last round of 16 match for India. Priyanshu faces arguably the biggest test of his career so far, facing Ginting at Istora Senayan,

No injury rustiness evidently for Axelsen. He is starting off in relentless fashion. One more match left on Court 1 one before Priyanshu vs Ginting.

Priyanshu will be in action on Court 1 in a couple of matches time.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 21-15 He-Zhou: The Indians await the winner of Fajar ALFIAN and Muhammad Rian ARDIANTO [1] vs REN Xiang Yu and TAN Qiang

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 21-15 He-Zhou: Here’s a look at how the second game unfolded.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 21-15 He-Zhou: Tame end to a match, as it ends with a service error. The Indians are into the quarterfinals! And they really enjoyed that win too.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 20-14 He-Zhou: The net cord goes India’s way and match points.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 19-14 He-Zhou:Great defensive rally for the Indians and the finish line in sight.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 18-14 He-Zhou: And Chirag with an enthusiastic kill attempt at the net and it goes long. A bit of a problem with that, with the great phases he can have, comes little phases like this too. But he gets the serve back with a nice winner through the middle.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 17-13 He-Zhou: And here’s the Chinese comeback. A little bit of pressure on Chirag and Satwik here on defence, fast drives galore by He and Zhou.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 15-8 He-Zhou: Well, it’s been a while to be fair, but there is a service fault called on height. And the usual ‘was it height?’ gesture from Chirag. He gets the serve back though with a booming smash.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 14-7 He-Zhou: Chirag with another good return, with help from the net cord. This is a really good lead at the moment.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 11-6 He-Zhou: Couple of solid serves from Satwik and it is a handy lead for the Indians at the mid-gme interval.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 8-6 He-Zhou: Chirag is dominating this match at the moment among all four players.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 6-4 He-Zhou: Superb couple of points from Chirag.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 4-4 He-Zhou: Should be a much closer game this.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 4-1 He-Zhou: Superb from Chirag at the net but that was some defence from China.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17, 3-1 He-Zhou: Here’s how game 1 went. The Indians need to be wary for what comes from the Chinese end now. Good tempo at the start of the 2nd game by Indians.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17 He-Zhou: ‘Started really well at the net. Need that attitude that we are ready for one more stroke,’ Mathias Boe at the break.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 21-17 He-Zhou: GAME 1, SatChi. Chirag steps into a return but is caught too close when it comes back at him. But Satwik executes it perfectly next point and the Indians take the lead

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 20-16 He-Zhou: Two game points saved by He and Zhou. The second one was perhaps a point the Indians should have won. Hopefully not costly for their sake.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 20-14 He-Zhou: Terrific serve-return-third shot by Chirag and the Indians have game points galore.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 19-14 He-Zhou: That is another crucial point. Good flat exchange and Satwik kills it with a crosscourt whip. A fine flick serve by Chirag to follow.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 17-13 He-Zhou: There is an error in judgement from Satwik, but he makes up next point to get the serve back. You can still feel this is really close.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 15-11 He-Zhou: The Indians needed that. HUGE smash by Satwik and Chirag is ready to put the follow up away. “You can also hear the Satwik smash like a firecracker going off,” says Steen on air. Nice description that.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 15-11 He-Zhou: The Chinese attacking game is starting to make an impact. Superb from the Chinese duo.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 15-7 He-Zhou: Fabulous defence and then attack by Chirag at the net.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 13-7 He-Zhou: Just a few errors creeping into the game for the Indians and the gap is closing. Satwik trying to loosen himself there.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag 11-3 He-Zhou: Looks like the Indians are actually trying to lift a bit more than usual, perhaps to throw the Chinese away from their explosive flat game. A good lead as we head into the interval.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag Shetty 9-2 He-Zhou: Couldn’t have asked for a much better start here, the Indians. Meanwhile, looks like Gopichand is on the chair for this match too alongside Mathias Boe. (We will confirm soon but that is again a good sight to see the chief national coach involved this week as muc h as he has been)

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag Shetty 6-1 He-Zhou: This is a really good start for the Indians. With the Chinese, it’s usually a very flat drive game and the Indians are getting the better of it so far.

Men’s doubles, Satwik-Chirag Shetty vs He-Zhou: This is the second meeting between these two pairs. He Ji Ting is a former top-10 and reached the Worlds final with Tan Qiang in 2021.

Men’s doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty vs He Ji Ting-Zhou Hao Dong: Time for SatChi on Court 1.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 21-18, 21-16 Ng Ka Long Angus: HS Prannoy is back in the quarterfinals of Indonesia Open! Back-to-back, it is now his 4th quarterfinals appearance at this event. (Twice semifinalist). A solid performance against a solid player.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 21-18, 20-16 Ng Ka Long Angus: What a moment for such a huge slice of luck. (well earned too, mind you). The crosscourt seemed destined to end in an error but the shuttle falls over. And match points for Prannoy.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 21-18, 19-16 Ng Ka Long Angus: What a point! Patiently keeps going to Angus’ forehand side and then injects pace all of a sudden. Great point construction. Finish line in sight. Another patient rally follows but a fancy crosscourt attempted by the Indian goes wide.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 21-18, 18-15 Ng Ka Long Angus: Well, well. Angus is not letting it get away. Aggressive point, injection of pace and the gap is down to two. Prannoy responds with a good punch from the net to the backcourt. He has been playing that shot quite well recently.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 21-18, 17-13 Ng Ka Long Angus: Good point by Prannoy actually, but a backhand hits the net. A big roar next up again, as Angus makes an error. The Indian wants to finish this in two.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 21-18, 16-11 Ng Ka Long Angus: Good kill at the net. Getting close, Prannoy.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 21-18, 15-11 Ng Ka Long Angus: Patience from Angus here and he is looking to force the errors from PRannoy, a couple of times it works too. A big roar from Prannoy as it his turn to win a long rally (25 shots, in fact, the longest so far). And he forces the error from a smash.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 21-18, 14-9 Ng Ka Long Angus: Prannoy with a terrific little run of points post the break, this could be decisive.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 21-18, 11-9 Ng Ka Long Angus: Prannoy’s backhand hits the net cord and falls on the other side just about. A cursory apology but he won’t mind that. Quick words from Gurusaidutt now.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 21-18, 10-9 Ng Ka Long Angus: Prannoy had moved ahead but Angus wins three in a row, with Prannoy struggling a bit for length. In fact both players not quite got their lengths right this game.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 21-18, 6-3 Ng Ka Long Angus: Good start to the second game for Prannoy too.

Scores updated in the previous updates.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 21-18 Ng Ka Long Angus: Here’s how game 1 unfolded. So close all the way!

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 21-18 Ng Ka Long Angus: Game 1, Prannoy. That previous point was so crucial when you think about it. And Prannoy closes it out with a superb crosscourt smash.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 20-18 Ng Ka Long Angus: Prannoy with superb adjustment to a net cord and manages to win a crucial point. Game points.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 19-18 Ng Ka Long Angus: Prannoy caught by Angus’ injection of pace and this is a 1-point game again.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 19-17 Ng Ka Long Angus: Patience on defence from Prannoy and then pounces on a short lift at the net. A lovely backhand exchange next up and Angus wins that point.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 17-15 Ng Ka Long Angus: More roaring from Prannoy, the smash down the line has worked well so far.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 16-15 Ng Ka Long Angus: Prannoy levels it up, couple of errors from Angus. And then a superb kill at the net to inch ahead.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 13-14 Ng Ka Long Angus: Prannoy pumping himself up here as he closes the gap down.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 11-13 Ng Ka Long Angus: Prannoy with a couple of precise smashes to get some rhythm back hopefully.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 9-11 Ng Ka Long Angus: After a tight start, Prannoy just starting to fall behind a little bit. Ng Ka Long Angus leads 11-9. Interestingly, Gopi sir is on the chair during the mid-game break with Gurusaidutt on court for tactical talk.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 9-11 Ng Ka Long Angus: We lost visuals there briefly, and Angus takes a 2-point lead into the interval.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 7-9 Ng Ka Long Angus: A couple of errors from Prannoy.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 7-7 Ng Ka Long Angus: A smash missed by Prannoy but nails it next point. Staying level here. Meanwhile, Pullela Gopichand is back on Prannoy’s chair for this one too, as he was on Tuesday.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 6-5 Ng Ka Long Angus: Aggressive flat drives from Prannoy and he eventually wins the point too.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 4-4 Ng Ka Long Angus: A fine start to this match from both players. A patient rally that is won by Prannoy first with a crosscourt smash, followed by one that goes Angus’ way.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy 2-2 Ng Ka Long Angus: Angus has had a solid year in terms of match wins so far, has won 5 times against top 10 players (couple of those retirements but still)

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy vs Ng Ka Long Angus: The winner of this match will take on third seed Kodai Naraoka in the quarterfinals.

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy vs Ng Ka Long Angus: This is a repeat of last year’s round of 16, incidentally when Prannoy won 21-11, 21-18 on his way to an impressive semifinal run.

HS Prannoy’s memorable runs at Indonesia Open:

2017: Defeated Anthony Ginting, Lee Chong Wei and Chen Long to reach the semi-final (Srikanth won the tournament after Prannoy lost against Kazumasa Sakai)

2022: Defeated Lakshya Sen, Ng Ka Long Angus, Rasmus Gemke to reach the semi-final (Axelsen won the tournament after Prannoy lost against Zhao Jun Peng)

MS round of 16, HS Prannoy vs Ng Ka Long Angus: Two men who have been around for a long time, their first meeting came back in 2015. The H2H is 5-5.

Meanwhile, Srikanth’s opponent for quarterfinals is confirmed, it will be All England champion Li Shi Feng.

Time for HS Prannoy vs Ng Ka Long Angus (Court 2)

Akane Yamaguchi vs Putri Kusuma Wardani next on Court 2, followed by Prannoy’s match:

We have a break for a bit, couple of matches to go on each court before Prannoy and Chirag-Satwik are in action. Could well be simultaneous.

PV Sindhu’s Asian swing:

Two defeats at Sudirman Cup (a good match against TTY there)

Semifinal exit at Malaysia Masters (decent run, but a convincing defeat against Tunjung)

Rd 1 exit at Thailand Open (Disappointing defeat against Michelle Li, a player she has dominated)

Rd 1 exit at Singapore Open (Nightmare draw, good performance, but tough defeat vs Akane)

Rd 2 exit at Malaysia Open (Nightmare draw, decent win vs Tunjung, but 9th straight loss vs Tai)

Injury comebacks are hard but she has had six months on tour now (most of it without a foreign coach) and I think we’re into bit of a worrying territory here with the double Olympic medallist.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 21-18, 21-16 PV Sindhu: A scoreline that suggests two relatively close games but in truth, apart from a couple of minutes in game 2, Tai Tzu Ying appeared to be fully in control. Nine straight defeats for Sindhu vs the magician.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 21-18, 20-16 PV Sindhu: An error in judgement at the back. Match points TTY.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 21-18, 19-16 PV Sindhu: There’s the finish line in sight for TTY. Fine run of 5 points.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 21-18, 17-16 PV Sindhu: TTY does tend to go on a walkabout sometimes when the errors start to creep in but she has quickly recovered here. A genius round-the-head reverse slice drop.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 21-18, 14-16 PV Sindhu: Gift of a service error from TTY.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 21-18, 13-15 PV Sindhu: Mini roar here, as TTY pushes one long.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 21-18, 13-14 PV Sindhu: Sindhu has had success when she has taken the shuttle early at the net. Another example of that there. And an error from TTY sees Sindhu retake the lead.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 21-18, 11-11 PV Sindhu: That is a surprising turn of events somewhat. Sindhu levels things up post interval.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 21-18, 11-8 PV Sindhu: That’s a mini run of points for Sindhu to close the gap but a bad error at the net sees TTY take a 3-point lead into the interval.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 21-18, 10-6 PV Sindhu: That’s a run of 5 straight points from 5-6 to 10-6.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 21-18, 7-6 PV Sindhu: The first leads in this match for Sindhu at 5-4 and 6-5. But TTY pulls ahead again.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 21-18, 4-3 PV Sindhu: Not the highest of quality starts to the second from both sides.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 21-18 PV Sindhu: I actually don’t quite know what to make of that opening game. The scoreboard says 21-18 and Sindhu can take confidence from that. But that certainly didn’t feel like a 21-18 game while watching. TTY led from start to finish.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 20-18 PV Sindhu: Smart work at the net by Sindhu to save one game point.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 20-17 PV Sindhu: Just when it looked like Sindhu might sneak up on TTY, game points for the third seed.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 19-17 PV Sindhu: Unreal crosscourt winner from TTY but Sindhu closes the gap down with a couple of good points herself.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 18-14 PV Sindhu: Error in review by Sindhu.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 17-14 PV Sindhu: Essentially Sindhu’s points so far have been majority TTY’s errors.. and as I say that, an aggressive follow up at the net. Gap narrows.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 16-9 PV Sindhu: A brief recovery by Sindhu for 9-14 from 5-13 down. But TTY pulls ahead again.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 13-5 PV Sindhu: A complete mishit from Sindhu right after the break.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 11-5 PV Sindhu: Sindhu not at the races here and that usually means TTY reels off quick points. Just 7 minutes for the 16 points.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 9-4 PV Sindhu: Some errors from both sides so far. As I say that, a magical slice drop from TTY.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 6-3 PV Sindhu: Sindhu’s best bet against TTY is to hit through the lines with power when possible but otherwise at least try and minimise errors and let TTY make mistakes.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 5-2 PV Sindhu: A lucky net cord for Sindhu, and she can use all the help she can get.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 4-1 PV Sindhu: And Sindhu gets on board after a good net shot forces a net error from TTY.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying 4-0 PV Sindhu: Already TTY moving Sindhu front and back, and nailing her lengths. But against TTY you need to weather these phases.

WS round of 16, Tai Tzu Ying vs PV Sindhu: Sindhu, the 2019 World Champion in Basel, hasn’t beaten Tai since (incidentally) the 2019 World Championships in Basel. The Indian has won a couple of big matches against the magician that is TTY but has almost always struggled, and trails 5-18 on the H2H now having lost 8 straight matches. The last time they played though, at the Sudirman Cup, she came close.

Time for Sindhu vs TTY, folks

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 22-20 Lakshya Sen: Here’s how the 2nd game panned out.

Before Sindhu vs Tai Tzu Ying, we have some breathing space to recover from that Srikanth vs Lakshya contest, as the match on Court 1 goes to decider:

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 22-20 Lakshya Sen: And Srikanth wins... eventually in straight games. That would have been a nightmare to recover from if he lost that game. (Surely needs to look into that though, thrice in three matches now that has happened, once losing the game).

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 21-20 Lakshya Sen: It is another match point for Srikanth.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 20-20 Lakshya Sen: Incredible. 20-20. Lakshya Sen saves SIX match points.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 20-18 Lakshya Sen: Now a lift goes long from Srikanth. Another soft error. Wow.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 20-16 Lakshya Sen: Srikanth misses another backhand.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 20-15 Lakshya Sen: Sri misses a backhand. One match points saved.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 20-14 Lakshya Sen: Not today. Match points for Sri

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 19-14 Lakshya Sen: Couple of times recently we have seen Srikanth let things slide after a big lead. Nearly happened yesterday. Lakshya gets the serve back here.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 18-13 Lakshya Sen: That service return that bent his racket is one of the bizarre things I have seen. Soon enough, a big lead for Sri.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 15-13 Lakshya Sen: and there is a tight exchange and it goes Srikanth’s way. And a clear from Lakshya goes long too. Srikanth can see the finish line.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 12-12 Lakshya Sen: We are back level in game 2. This has been a fascinating contest so far. Interestingly, both players seem to be staying away from tight exchanges, sign that they both know each other’s game well.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 10-11 Lakshya Sen: Another good defensive point by Srikanth and nearly a stunning defensive crosscourt block for a winner, but it lands just wide. Lakshya with the lead as we take a pause.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 10-10 Lakshya Sen: And once again we are at 10-each. Next point to decide mid-game lead.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 9-7 Lakshya Sen: A proactive point by Lakshya at the net to close the gap down but he then misses a forehand crosscourt.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 6-4 Lakshya Sen: A couple of really soft errors from Lakshya.

PV Sindhu vs Tai Tzu Ying to follow this on Court 1:

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 3-3 Lakshya Sen: Another great defensive effort from Srikanth (seeing more and more of that in recent times) but the error does come from him eventually.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17, 1-1 Lakshya Sen: Good smash from Sri to start the 2nd game. The second rally is a really patient one, with Srikanth again defending well, but Sen outlasts him there.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 21-17 Lakshya Sen: Game 1, Srikanth. Lakshya’s clear is wide. That was a fine game by Srikanth under pressure late on.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 20-17 Lakshya Sen: WHAT A POINT. Srikanth with a fabulous defensive effort early on and then closes it out with a string of aggressive shots. Game points.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 18-17 Lakshya Sen: Good flat exchange and the backhand error from Lakshya sees Srikanth sneak back ahead.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 17-17 Lakshya Sen: Couple of errors from Sri and we are level again.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 17-15 Lakshya Sen: Good smash winner from Srikanth to go 3 up but Lakshya gets the serve back with a good aggressive point

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 16-14 Lakshya Sen: Geez that was a wide one alright from Lakshya. This game is slipping away from the youngster.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 14-13 Lakshya Sen: Srikanth sneaks into the lead.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 10-11 Lakshya Sen: Lakshya can’t quite believe his crosscourt smash is called out. That was well in! But he steadies himself and takes a 1-point lead into the interval. No coaching assistance either side today.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 9-10 Lakshya Sen: Once again a handy lead for Lakshya

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 6-8 Lakshya Sen: Lakshya pulls ahead again, run of four points to go up 8-4. But gap down to 2 again as the youngster nets a forehand smash.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi 4-4 Lakshya Sen: Lakshya started better but we are all level in quick time.

MS round of 16, Srikanth Kidambi vs Lakshya Sen: The warmups are done, match is underway.

Srikanth vs Lakshya next on Court 3:

Coming up shortly, is Srikanth vs Lakshya: Srikanth and Sen have met twice on the international circuit, and the former has won both times, including the World Championships semifinal in 2021.
